On the evening before the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche held a special preview event for open to their customers who have pre-ordered the new 911 GT3 RS. It looks like it was a very exclusive event and the attendees got an unprecedented look at the newest 911.
According to the press material they have the ultimate street legal track car. Better yet is the method they used to obtain this perfection, they simply stole all the best parts from other street legal and race only 911’s. Porsche started by increasing the displacement of the 3.8-liter flat-6 up to 4.0-liters. Then they went to the race department to create new forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and retrofitted the crankshaft from the race version GT3 RSR. These improvements allow the naturally aspirated engine to output 500 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque and will knock off a 0-60 run in 3.8 seconds. All of that power is transmitted through a 6 speed manual gear box (I’m sure the PDK will be offered in yet another version) that has had its gear ratios specially designed for track driving.
Porsche have maintained the track first mentality on the interior of the car as well which receives carbon-fiber bucket seats that are lighter then ones in the GT3. In the European versions they will get a full protective roll cage however due to North American regulations it won’t find its way into our cars. Other changes were made to cut down the overall weight and include carbon-fiber front fenders and trunk lid as well as plastic rear and ¾ side rear windows.
